Drone Pilot Training for the Public Utilities Board in Singapore

Singapore’s Public Utilities Board (PUB) oversees the country’s entire water supply system, which comprises the water catchment systems, drainage systems, waterworks, water reclamation plants and sewage systems.

Such systems have been sought and managed in conventional ways this far, and Singapore PUB is committed to change how inspections and management of these assets are performed, by adopting state of the art technology, through Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), a grand total of 80 professionals across different units have participated in theory and practical intensive training sessions with Ace Aviation.

The training subjects ranged from Singaporean aeronautical regulations, airspace usage, aircraft capabilities and limitations, crew briefings, risk assessments, LiPo batteries safety and management, drone technology components, to stepping out of the classroom and enjoy a hands-on practical experience to fine tune their flying skills, by the end of each day Pilots received a certificate of their Essential Remote Pilot (ERP) program completion.

DJI’s Mavic Pro and Inspire 1 drones are the platforms this institution has chosen to secure a remotely operated monitoring workflow, supported by the incorporation of mission planning software like Pix4DCapture and Aero Ranger to automate several data acquisition procedures from take off to landing.
